Sheikh Yusuf Al-Hajji: Let's remember our martyrs and our war prisoners in our National Days.

1-       Patriotism is an Islamic and faith value  and our model in this regard is Allah's Messenger (peace be upon him)

2-       Our beloved State has granted us a lot, we grew up on its own land, benefited from its bounties and we breathed in its shadows the freedom, security and safety.

1-      Our celebration with the National Days occasions requires thanking Allah's grace, exerting philanthropy, rejecting the disputes and emphasizing the national unity.

2-      I'm still remembering the impressive scene of the late Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad when he prostrated to Allah on the homeland as thanks after liberating the State.

Former Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, Sheikh Youssef Jasem Al-Hajji stressed that Kuwait's National Day and the Liberation Day are two dear events in the heart of every patriotic individual. Our role is to be proud of these two historical occasions and remember the brave Kuwaitis who have sacrificed and devoted their lives to evacuate the colonizer. We also still remember our brave sons in our armed forces along with the  resistance fighters who have succeeded - thanks to Allah - in defending Kuwait rights and expelling the Iraqi invader from our beloved country and restoring the banner of good, freedom and independence to wave over all parts of Kuwait.

Sheikh Al-Hajji added saying in this occasion we have to remember with gratitude the role of leaders and the Arab and Islamic peoples who supported Kuwait rights. We also must remember the Kuwaiti martyrs, war prisoners who were an model of sacrifice and protected the nation honor. Allah the Almighty says, concerning the martyrs, in the Holy Quran "Think not of those who are slain in the way of Allah, as dead. Nay, they are living. With their Lord they have provision".(3,19)

We ask God Almighty to bestow His mercy and make them dwell with the prophets.

Al-Hajji confirmed that Islam urges us to love our homelands and defend the them. Hadith has been narrated from the Prophet( peace be upon him) when he addressed Mecca when he was forced to exit, saying: As narrated from Abdullah Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) "What a good country and the best one to my heart. Were not I  forced to go out, I wouldn't live in another place, anywhere else."  Islam considers the one who is killed in defense of his own homeland as a martyr. He pointed out that the Prophet (peace be upon him) was calling Allah for Madina city, saying: "Make us love Madina as much as we love Makka or even more so!" (Agreed upon). This is a proof that patriotism is an Islamic and faith value.

He added that our beloved country has given us a lot. We grew up on its own land, benefited from is bounties, we breathed in its shadows freedom, security and safety. We have to maintain its basic elements, identity, culture and its charitable Islamic gains. Allah the Almighty has granted this dear homeland generous and decent living conditions. Kuwaiti citizens have realized the value of this blessing, and its philanthropists established charitable institutions to collect alms to meet the needs of the poor and the needy all over the world. Kuwaitis should continue their support for the charitable work being one of the most important pillars of the factors of protecting Kuwait against invaders, greedy and spiteful persons.

As for kuwaitis duty towards their homeland, Al-Hajji said: "On this occasion we have to cultivate in the hearts of our children a sense of patriotism through knowing its virtues and exerting the required efforts to raise its status high and combating the instigators of breaching its security. Celebration of these good anniversaries do not mean going against Allah's sharia and bringing singers and artists to revive the jester concert nights, but celebration requires thanks Allah's grace, doing good things, holding useful activities, rejecting disputes, emphasizing the national unity and developing the ways of coexistence among the people of one nation.

Regarding the achievements of the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, when he was its minister, Sheikh Yusuf al-Hajji said, "I have continued the march of those who have preceded me in the service of Islam and Muslims and I have succeeded, thanks to Allah, in composing the Encyclopedia of Jurisprudence  which is an important addition to the Islamic library.  This encyclopedia is considered one the most important achievements in the history of the ministry Awqaf. Allah has helped us to exchange experiences and Da'wah expertise with many Islamic countries particularly in terms of zakat and Islamic Waqf . We gave special care for mosques and were keen on activating their educational, cultural  and faith role. We did not spare effort, thanks to Allah, in caring of all sectors of the Ministry of Awqaf in the fields of pilgrimage, culture, Islamic studies and Holy Quran memorization.

Concerning Kuwait's place in his mind, Al-Hajji said: "Kuwait is as essential to him like as the soul to the body." We have tried the deprivation of this bless at the time of brutal Iraqi invasion in the second of August 1990. We have a good example in the Prophet (peace be upon him)  situation when he said about his country Mecca (you are the most beloved country to me, but were not I dismissed I would not go. Homeland is dear, so we should exert great efforts for it. I still remember the impressive scene of the late Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad –may Allah mercy him- when he prostrated to Allah on the homeland as thanks to Allah after Kuwait had been liberated. He called the youth to realize the value of their homeland and work day and night for its development and promotion. They should continue to acquire knowledge and be armed with the values of Islam and its morals.
